Safe Routes to School Coordinator

Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc. (KMM),  is seeking a full-time Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have a passion for improving bicycle and pedestrian safety, experience working with school-age children, be comfortable presenting in front of groups, and have a willingness to work with stakeholders to develop and implement projects and activities that improve bicycle and pedestrian access/safety for students and their respective communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Building and Delivery:

  • Develop and promote SRTS programs and events within a service area.
  • Provide outreach and recruitment to all schools in the Middlesex County service area.
  • Deliver pedestrian and bicycle safety presentations to large and small groups of students in grades K through 12.
  • Deliver bicycle safety instruction to elementary and middle school students through bicycle “rodeos,” classes, and demonstrations.
  • Walking school bus development and training.
  • Organize and participate in International Walk to School Day and NJ Walk and Bike to School Month.
  • Provide “train the trainer” workshops to school personnel within the Middlesex County service area.
  • Provide bicycle safety education workshops in the Middlesex County service area.
  • Develop school travel plans for participating schools in the Middlesex County service area.
  • Promote the NJ SRTS Resource Center and online materials within the Middlesex County service area.
  • Encourage local participation in NJ SRTS webinars coordinated by the NJ SRTS Resource Center.

Administrative:

  • Attend the SRTS Regional Coordinator Monthly Meetings by the NJ Department of Transportation and the NJ SRTS Resource Center.
  • Participate in SRTS program training workshops organized by the NJ SRTS Resource Center.
  • Promote NJ SRTS Recognition Program; solicit school nominations for awards programs.
  • Participate in working group meetings.
  • Participate in training as required by NJDOT and/or NJ SRTS Resource Center.
  • Promote statewide SRTS events.
  • Assist the New Jersey Department of Transportation and the NJ SRTS Resource Center with data collection for program/performance evaluation.
  • Conduct evaluation, data collection, and feedback on all programs by school.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports.
  • Order, organize, distribute, and track promotional SRTS items by quantity and recipient.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Comfortable working with schoolchildren.
  • Must pass a background check as required by the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
  • Willingness to complete the League of American Bicyclist League Cycling Instructor (LCI) Certification.
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present information to diverse groups of people, including students, school administrators, community members, and elected officials.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and conferencing software such as Zoom & Teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Data analysis skills and the ability to translate data into uncomplicated terms.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to achieve specific and measurable grant-related performance outcomes.
  • Some weekends and evenings are required.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; willingness and ability to drive within Middlesex County to school locations and transport equipment/event materials.
  • Ability and willingness to lift 25 lbs. (to transport equipment, event materials, etc.)
  • Ability and willingness to walk up to 1 mile.
  • Reliable home internet connection.

Program Coordinator

Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic self-starter for a full-time Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator will partner with municipalities, employers, and other organizations in Middlesex County, NJ to plan, develop, and implement projects and activities that enhance the quality of life in Middlesex County by reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality, and boosting bicycle and pedestrian access/safety for all residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and administer KMM’s commuter programs, including Emergency Ride Home and the vanpool sponsorship program for NJ TRANSIT.
  • Develop, plan, and implement unique events and campaigns aimed at promoting commuter optionsand sustainable transportation.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide positive customer service to commuter program participants.
  • Conduct outreach and education related to safety topics, including teen distracted driving, older adult, child passenger safety, and bicycle/pedestrian education.
  • Participate in public outreach activities with other agencies, including events, fairs, and other initiatives in Middlesex County.
  • Plan, develop, and implement seminars, workshops, and other in-person events and meetings as requested.
  • Represent KMM in local, county, and regional stakeholder meetings, as required.
  • Support grant management duties with monthly and quarterly progress reports.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and Executive Director.
